Interested in installation art, but not sure where to start? While installation art is typically thought of in relation to sculpture, this hands-on workshop will consider the relationship between 2D and 3D using simple flexible materials, such as fabric and paper. Discover how to convert these materials into complex forms to create an immersive installation in collaboration with your classmates.

Making individual contributions that become part of a larger collaborative thematic work, you will transform PenArt’s painting studio. Liz will share her tricks for bending, folding, and non-technical manipulating of paper and fabric to produce elaborate and sculptural interludes. Group discussions led by Liz will address technical and conceptual concerns throughout the four days. No previous installation art or sculpture experience is necessary.

Liz Miller received her MFA from the University of Minnesota, and her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her installations have been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad, with recent solo exhibitions at The Washington Pavilion, SPACE Gallery, and Firehouse Art Center.
