This workshop will demystify the process of creating a photographic book. Whether you’re interested in working on a conceptual project or a book of favorite photographs, you will gain an understanding of developing a finished book from the making of photographs to the final product of a bound volume.
Guided instruction will provide you with hands-on practice editing, sequencing, designing the layout, and options for physically binding a book. Come prepared with a fleshed out body of work or group of photographs that you would like to edit and sequence into a book. Some knowledge of Photoshop, Lightroom, and InDesign will be helpful, but not necessary.
Through the landscape and people she encounters, Barbara Diener explores her own relationship to ideas of home, personal history, and collective memory in her photography practice. Born in Germany, she earned an MFA from Columbia College-Chicago and BFA from the California College of the Arts. Barbara's work has been exhibited widely throughout the United States and abroad. She has participated in several artist residency programs, including the Fields Project, ACRE, and HATCH. Barbara is the Collection Manager in the Department of Photography at the Art Institute of Chicago and teaches at Oakton Community College and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
