Combining photography with encaustic provides you with the opportunity to take your photographs to new dimensions and creative possibilities. This workshop will focus on both capturing the landscape through photographs, as well as using the encaustic process to add depth and mystery to your compositions.

Clare will begin the week by sharing and discussing the work of masters of encaustic, in areas of both photography and painting. You will then practice with sample boards and experiment with the various techniques of the medium. Once you have a feel for the effects you would like to achieve, you will spend time shooting at various Door County sites. The remainder of the workshop will concentrate on using those images and developing methods and workflow specific to you. Students are required to have working knowledge of their own camera and editing software.

Working in mixed media, Clare O'Neill combines photography with pigment, wax, and oil. This process results in stunning photo encaustic works that are ethereal in design and warm in texture. Clare uses rich imagery, bold brush strokes, and playful drips to create works that are full of gesture, spontaneity, and movement.
