Motivated by gesture and expression, this workshop focuses on material, application, and composition. Using photographic references, you will break down each painting into manageable stages while implementing new techniques, identifying personal goals, and enjoying the process.


Tom will demonstrate and guide you through a variety of concepts and techniques, as well as provide individualized instruction as you incorporate what you learn into your work. Using provided photo references, you will bring your work to the next level and begin in a new direction aligned with your artistic goals. This workshop is open to painters working in oil, pastel, or acrylic.


Tom Nachreiner received his BFA with honors from the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee. He has been a working artist and illustrator since 1978, and more recently a studio and plein air painter. He has won numerous Best of Show awards in plein air competitions, and has participated in Cedarburg Plein Air, Milwaukee Plein Air, and the Door County Plein Air Festival. He is a member of Oil Painters of America and in 2015, became a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society. Tom's work is exhibited in juried shows across the country and he is represented by Edgewood Orchard Gallery in Door County.
