Challenge the notions of watercolor painting as you translate your skills from traditional- to large-scale. In this workshop, you will develop techniques, methods, and a workflow for approaching and completing what can be an intimidating project.

Through a series of demonstrations and one-on-one conversations, Michael will share his methodologies, including preparation of surfaces, studio setup, selection of painting tools, and efficient painting techniques. In addition, there will be time each day to put these concepts into practice and experience the reward of laying down an eight-foot wash and watching it travel across the surface. Students should have an understanding of watercolor fundamentals and expect to expend some physical energy in this process.

Michael Ireland is a nationally recognized painter, as well as an accomplished creative director and graphic designer. His painting practice challenges the scale and format associated with traditional transparent watercolor, resulting in works measuring up to 20 feet in length. Michael's work is included in the permanent collections of countless hospitals, universities, libraries, and other public spaces. He is a member of the Palette and Chisel Club, National Watercolor Society, Society for the Arts in Healthcare, and Chicago Artist Coalition.
